How to play PS4 games on PS5

Did you get a PS5?

PS5 has built-in backward compatibility, so you can play PS4 and PS5 software. However, since there are different types of software, such as packaged and downloadable versions, you may be wondering if you can run games on your PS5 without problems.

In this article, we explain how to play PS4 games on PS5.

Playing with PS4 Discs

The easiest way is to put your PS4 disc directly into your PS5 and play.

You will need time to install and update the game, but you can play the game just as you would play it on your PS4.

However, the PS5 Digital Edition does not have a disc insertion slot, so you will not be able to play PS4 games this way.

Downloading PS4 games from the game library

Any software you have previously played on your PS4 can be found in the PS5 game library.

You can easily play PS4 software by selecting the software you want to download to your PS5 from the Game Library on the right side of the PS5 home screen.

You may want to have external storage available, as storage will be squeezed.

Data transfer via Wi-Fi

Games stored inside the PS4 can be migrated to the PS5 via Wi-Fi.

To do this, both PS4 and PS5 must be activated and connected to the same network.

Data transfer is faster when connected via wired LAN.

Settings > System > System Software > Data Transfer

Check the software you wish to transfer to the PS5.

This method will save the data to the PS5's internal storage, so be sure to have enough free space available.
