Shohei Ohtani of the Angels will not be participating in the Home Run Derby in 2022; he had been touted to participate for the second year in a row after 2021, but it appears that he will not be participating this year.
In an interview, Ohtani responded that he would consider it positively if he were invited to the Home Run Derby.
As long as the Angels have not given up on making the postseason, the condition of Shohei Ohtani, the team's two-tool player, is important.
Looking back on last year's Home Run Derby, Otani was quite exhausted, so in a sense it was probably a good thing that he did not participate in order to reduce the burden on his body.
